The hunger drops off quite a bit. Metabolism goes through the roof, and the result is all muscle and zero fat. You can eat whatever you want, but at that level of fitness, you don't feel right unless you eat a very balanced and healthy diet. You have to monitor your work outs and your sleep. Everything is set to play in top gear and in top form.
For my team, it was only fresh fruits and vegetables, a modest amount of meat, and high quality carbs like pasta and whole grains. There was no cakes, cookies, large quantities of cheese, ice cream, burgers ... basically nothing heavy in fat. The only splurge was an occasional beer, but no more than one or two, and certainly not the day before a match.

Well Footballes usually eat a high carb diet like pasta and bread because carbohydrates give you slow released energy which helps you perform better and for longer

What are you asking? What foods do footballers eat? Or do Footballers have to eat special foods before a Football Game? Or do they eat the same food all the time?

lots of healthy protein.....fish is good - protein and not much fat...leads to an increase in muscle mass without fat gain.
low fat, low sugar diet (i.e. no chocolate, ice cream, sweet drinks, cake etc.) diet
complex carbohydrates e.g. ground provision, pasta, whole grain wheat products......minimal rice and quick burn carbs.
fruits and vegetables are always good.
on match day, some powdered glucose just before kickoff.
