What exactly do you want to know about her? The short version is: daughter of Greek Goddess Demeter and wife of Greek God Hades, god of the underworld.

Greek goddess of the Spring. Daughter of Demeter goddess of agriculture. The most famous myth involving her was the one explaining why we have summer and winter. In it Persephone was picking flowers when a chariot erupted from out of the earth carrying Hades, the God of the underworld. He kidnapped Persephone and took her into the underworld because he'd fallen in love with her and wanted her as his wife.

Needless to say Persphone wasn't happy and neither was Demeter, who loved her daughter very much. She went to Zeus the king of gods and demanded he order Hades to release Persephone or she would cause all the plants on Earth to die and all the people and animals would starve to death.

She kept her word....and as a compromise told Hermes the messenger god to go to the underworld. If Persephone had not eaten any of the food in the underworld she would be allowed to go home to her mother, if not, she would have to stay.

Persephone had been so miserable down there that she had not eaten anything...but then she saw a tree with strange but tempting fruit she ate 6 of the seeds right before Hermes arrived to take her away.

There was a big uproar over it...Hades insisting that Persephone was his and must stay in the underworld, and Demeter threatening to never let the plants grow again unless her daughter was returned. And Zeus, knowing he couldn't allow everything on the planet to die because of Demeter but also remaining true to his conditions ruled that because Persephone had eaten six of the pomegranate seeds that she would have to spend 6 months of the year in the underworld, and the other six on Earth with her mother.

When Persephone is with Demeter the goddess is happy and the plants grow and bloom with her joy. This is spring and summer, but when Persephone is in the underworld with Hades Demeter grieves for and misses her daughter and the plants wither and die until she returns, this is autumn and winter. ^_^
