How to darken a wood finish?

We are refinishing the top of an oak table and cannot match the stain color. Closest stain is too light and a little on the red side. Is there any way to darken it up? Adding more coats is just making the red more intense.

Matching on older finish is nearly impossible. Check the color chart for minwax you may find a nearly perfect match there . The Minwax website is very informative about your dilemma

Go to another hardware store and check their stains. There are too many stains on the market for you not to be able to find what you want.
