Really all of them do, its just a matter of how much do you want to spend. But then why self publish your book, when you can get a standard publisher to publish for your work for free, get paid for it and and an advance. Please email me for a list of publishing companies looking for new writers.

Self-publishing = you, yourself, takes care of promotion and marketing. They merely print the book. This means you pay for everything.
Subsidy-publishing = you pay a company to print and "promote" your book and you typically are ripped off and don't "sell" much of anything.
Traditional publishers (small and large press) = You query them properly and IF they like your work, you sign a contract and they will print/market your book. The level of promotion and marketing depends on many factors, such as how well they think the book will sell, how well-established you already are as an author and other reasons.
Get yourself a current copy of Writer's Market and start educating yourself on the publishing world if you are a serious writer.

There are many vanity press publishers who offer good marketing help, but also many companies that are nothing more than scams. Check the Preditors and Editors webpage. Even if you pay a substantial sum for printing, the final proof reading is up to you to approve. Don't assume because you paid them to edit, that it will be done professionally and/or accurately. I've worked with many authors and the best one I've heard of so far is Pleasant World, the Christian book division of Winepress. The author was very pleased with the materials provided for her marketing as well as the book signings they arranged for her and the book fairs and conventions where they featured her book. The big names, like PublishAmerica and Vantage, vary greatly from out and out scam to some authors liking their services.

None. That isnt their job. Their job is to print your book. Your job is to sell and promote it. That's why self publishing isnt a great idea. They lack the resources to promote you. Most of them will print literally anything as long as you come up with a check to pay for the printing. They will then present you with a nice carton of books for you to promote and sell. I strongly suggest you visit Preditors and Editors (Google it) and read the site from beginning to end. Dave K. is an encyclopedia of information on publishing. Many self publishers are scams. Those who are, are listed on the Preditors and Editors site. You would be better sending queries to small publishers (reputable ones - the baddies are also listed at P and E) and looking to sell your book that way. Also spend some time in a major bookstore. Look around and observe whose books are being featured there and whose arent. Unless you can find a publisher who will actually get your books on the shelves of bookstores, you will be doing a LOT of self promoting to sell it. C.

I agree with JB, if you have the money to spend on self publishing then go for it. A publisher will promote your book and market it. The rest is up to you. There are many ways to promote your work on line and off for free.
Good Luck
