Price has a lot to do with it. YOU can usually purchase a cheap china instrument for a little over $100. as a starting price in a music store, it has been a few years since I've looked at them. Or you may go for a quality instrument. You need to be measured for the correct size. There is a company that you can order a violin from.I have bought bows and many music supplies. A good company to order from. They stand behind their products.

When you start out on the violin, there is a chance you may not like it. If you are in middle school or high school (some elementary schools do this too) your school may offer the choice to rent a violin. I would go with a rented violin, either from your school or from a local music store, until you think you're good enough that you want a better violin so your music will sound better. Usually when you're halfway through Suzuki Book 2, but you can wait until later. If you're still having troubles, ask your teacher. (I mean, you can't learn to play by yourself...)

Pretty much any violin at your local music shop is pretty OK. I would avoid getting anything online, because it'll probably get damaged in shipping, or just not work right. I purchased my clarient at a reasonable price, and I got to try it out when I bought it.

Sizing is critical. A good brand is Lewis and Son
