Yes you can keep them in the UK, but you would need all the relevant checks done and also obtain the licences to keep them. You would have to be checked out to ensure you are providing the animal with everything it needs. There is a pet shop near me that sells them, if you want any more information contact appleton exotics in wigan and speak to the owner, she is a lovely lady who knows what she's talking about but she won't sell to just anyone who comes in and asks for one. and before everyone starts criticising i too think they are better of in the wild in colonies, but hey what you gonna do we can't stop all the injustices in the world, at least they're being well looked after

You've just been watching meer cat manor haven't you ?
Its a great programme..
I don't know if you can have one as a pet - I shouldn't think you'd be able to domesticate it properly - Its wild - It will rip your house up and deficate and pee everywhere.
Having said that - I suppose you could keep one in your garden or something - Also their social creatures so it would be cruel to remove them from their natural surroundings.
But I dont know.. maybe.

Do you mean a meerkat? It would be awful to have a meerkat as a pet. They are animals that live in extended family groups so to have one meerkat would, apart from keeping a wild animal in captivity, be unkind and I am sure it would not do well, be happy or healthy. I think the answer is no.

I don't think they're domesticated but i was looking in a catalogue earlier today and you can get garden ornament meerkats on springs to hide in your flower beds and they bob about in the breeze as tho they're moving!
