Joseph Stalin, Russian: (December 18 [O.S. December 6] 1878[1] – March 5, 1953), better known by his adopted name, Joseph Stalin (alternatively transliterated Josef Stalin), was General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union's Central Committee from 1922 until 1953. Despite his formal position being originally without significant influence, and his office being nominally but one of several Central Committee Secretariats, Stalin's increasing control of the Party from 1928 onwards led to him becoming the de facto party leader and the dictator of his country

Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, Russian, better known by the alias Lenin (April 22, 1870 – January 21, 1924), was a Russian revolutionary, a communist politician, the main leader of the October Revolution, the first head of the Soviet Union, and the primary theorist of Leninism, a variant of Marxism.

Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini (July 29, 1883 – April 28, 1945) was the prime minister and dictator of Italy from 1922 until 1943, when he was overthrown. He established a repressive fascist regime that valued nationalism, militarism, anti-liberalism and anti-communism combined with strict censorship and state propaganda. Mussolini became a close ally of German dictator Adolf Hitler, whom he influenced. Mussolini entered World War II in June, 1940 on the side of Nazi Germany. Three years later, the Allies invaded Italy. In April 1945 Mussolini attempted to escape to German-controlled Austria, only to be captured and shot near Lake Como by Communist Resistance units.

Hirohito, Emperor Shōwa (April 29, 1901 — January 7, 1989) was the 124th emperor of Japan according to the traditional order of succession, reigning from December 25, 1926 until his death. His personal name was Hirohito. Like all his predecessors, he is known since his death by a posthumous name, that, according to a tradition dating back to 1912, is the name of the era coinciding with his reign. Having ruled during the Shōwa era (Enlightened Peace), he is now known as Emperor Shōwa. Although he is widely referred to as Hirohito or Emperor Hirohito outside of Japan, Japanese emperors are only referred to in Japan by their posthumous names, much like the regnal names taken in Europe except it is determined after death. The use of his personal name instead can be considered overly familiar, or almost derogatory. His reign was the longest of any historical Japanese emperor, and he oversaw many significant changes to Japanese society.

Adolf Hitler (April 20, 1889 — April 30, 1945) was Chancellor of Germany from 1933, and Führer (Leader) of Germany from 1934 until his death. He was leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei or NSDAP), known as the Nazi Party.

Hitler gained power in a Germany facing crisis after World War I. Using propaganda and charismatic oratory, he appealed to the economic needs of the lower and middle classes, while sounding resonant chords of nationalism, antisemitism, and anti-communism. With the establishment of a restructured economy, a rearmed military, and a totalitarian and fascist regime, Hitler pursued an aggressive foreign policy with the intention of expanding German Lebensraum ("living space"). This triggered World War II when Germany annexed Austria, the Czech lands, and invaded Poland, much of which was also annexed to form the "Greater German Reich" (Großdeutsches Reich).

At their zenith, Nazi Germany and the Axis Powers occupied most of Europe, but were eventually defeated by the Allies. By the end of the war, Hitler's racial policies had culminated in the killing of approximately 11 million people, including the genocide of some six million Jews, in what is now known as the Holocaust. In total, the war in Europe cost approximately 45 million people their lives.

In the final days of the war, Hitler, along with his new wife, Eva Braun, committed suicide in his underground bunker in Berlin, as the city was overrun by the Red Army of the Soviet Union.

Idi AminIdi Amin Dada (c. 1924–16 August 2003) was an army officer and President of Uganda (1971–1979). There was much sectarian violence during his tenure, including the persecution of the Acholi, Lango, Indian and other ethnic groups, as well as Hindus and Christians in Uganda. The death toll during Amin's regime probably will never be accurately known. An estimate from the International Commission of Jurists is that it was not less than 80,000 and more likely around 300,000. Another estimate, compiled by exile organisations with the help of Amnesty International, put the number killed at 500,000.[1]

He gave himself the title "His Excellency President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea, and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular".[2]

Spanish Dictator General Francisco Franco:

Francisco Paulino Hermenegildo Teódulo Franco Bahamonde (4 December 1892–20 November or possibly 19 November[1] 1975), abbreviated Francisco Franco Bahamonde and commonly known as Generalísimo Francisco Franco (pron. IPA : [fɾan'θisko 'fɾaŋko]), was the effective ruler and later formal head of state of first parts of Spain from October 1936 and then all of Spain from 1939 until his death in 1975.

After a successful military career he reached the rank of general. He fought in Morocco and quelled socialist uprisings in Spain against the conservative republican government. In July, 1936, after a general election in which the socialist faction had won a plurality, and formed a government with other left wing forces, he led a failed military coup against the democratically elected republican government. The coup evolved into the Spanish Civil War during which war he led the Falangists against the republicans. After winning the civil war he presided over the government of the Spanish State. During the second World War Franco maintained a policy of neutrality, although he did assist Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy on a small scale. From 1947 and until his death he was de facto regent of Spain which he ruled as a dictatorship oppressing dissident opinions and quenching political opposition with force. After his death Spain became a democracy; however, the memory of Franco is still controversial. Spanish conservatives remember him as a just leader, whereas leftists remember him as a harsh dictator.

Well, I'm not going to do your homework for you but:
Hirohito was not a dictator
other recent/current dictators are - Kim Jung II (North Korea), Fidel Castro (Cuba), Robert Mugabe (Zimbabwe), Chairman Mao (China), Sadam Hussein (Iraq), Paul Biya (Cameroon), Charles Taylor (Liberia) etc etc etc. I think USA still has over 40 dictators on its hit list!

Hitler wasn't a dictator though. he was elected to his position. He was Times man of the year in 1938. Later in his term of rule he lost his mind to parkensons and was edicted to amphetamines and basically just a public figurehead as his generals made all the decisions for his country. He was a devote racist and did hate the Jews and blamed them for the situation his country was in after WWI. However, many beleive that the holocaust was not Hitler's doing, rather the ideas of one of his generals, Himmler. It is hard to actually pinpoint who did what for sure, but Hitlers ideas of racism definately spurheaded most of what happened.

Well, if you wanted to make a political statement in class, you could name all of the U.S. presidents since the time they started signing executive orders into law. That has made the office of president a virtual dictatorship.
