Simple decomposition reaction. Carbonates decompose when heated to form CO2 and a metallic oxide.

CaCO3 (s) (heat) ---> CO2 (g) + CaO (s)

This is a decomposition reaction. This is also what happens when limestone (CaCO3) degrades

CaCO3 == CaO + CO2
