I checked the Ea support site and that is not a know issue of the game Undying. The EA support site however says the following about the minimum requirements.

Note: Windows 2000 and NT are not supported

Windows XP will fall into that category. You can try running yhe game in compatibility mode but i doubt that will help much. Right click on the game shortcut and select PROPERTIES. Click the COMPATIBILITY TAB. Mark the check box RUN THIS PROGRAM IN COMPATIBILITY MODE FOR and select WINDOWS 98/ME Click OK and see if it works. Play with some of the other settings there but doubt it will help much.

As for the standby issue post some more info about your computers hardware and maybe we can sort it out.

To get into risk-free mode shop hitting F8 even as the workstation is booting up. which will raise a demonstrate screen that asks you the way you want as well, prevalent or risk-free mode. There you'll get into risk-free mode. Now the gray field kinda sounds like msconfig. in case you flow to run and kind in msconfig which will raise a touch software and in case you flow to the startup tab you are able to verify or uncheck what you want to run on startup. Becareful because some stuff is critical for some courses. I definitely have under no circumstances ran it in risk-free mode, in simple terms prevalent. wish it really is what you're looking for for.
