Sorry fellas, but this is a wheel bearing, or a severely damaged belt inside the tire, not the brakes. Now, since I know how accurately these questions are usually written, I'll bet there's some info missing. No mention of braking problems or vibration, or being worse when applying the brakes, plus the crunch crunch pause cadence suggests something other than cracked brake disc. Just lift up the front end and spin the wheels....see if the noise is gone. Since that takes pressure off the bearing and tire only...(not the brakes) you've found the source of the noise. If the tire isn't bubbled or torn, you can double check it anyway by swapping it with another from the vehicle. Either way, come back on here with your next question and mention what it turned out to be.

Your right it is the brakes or the lack of brake shoes or pads depending on your car. You need to get it to a service center right away. The crunch crunch you hear is the brake caliper applying pressure to the pad which in turn pushes against the rotor. Your pads are wore out and it is metal to metal sort of a grinding sound. Your braking ability will be greatly reduced. You shouldn't drive your car much if any until you get the brakes replaced. Depending on how bad it is (if it is making a crunching sound it is bad) you may have to get your rotors turned or replaced also. Hope this helps.

you are likely in need of a simple brake job. if you are only hearing the sound when you press the pedal and coming to a stop then it is a brake problem. you do have the choice of either waiting until the sound comes from both front wheels or just biting the bullet and get rid of that annoying grinding sound. don't be surprised when the mechanic tells you that you need brake pads and brake rotors

BUT. if the sound you are hearing happens only when the front of the car is bouncing around, there could just be snow and debris trapped in your front end components, i recommend a good car wash not being afraid to spray underneath and behind your front wheels

Definately sounds like brakes. check for a cracked or broken brake pad.
