Nagin made such comments during a dinner with reporters for a pro-black (African-American) newspaper. He basically resonated such blind racist statements for an audience receptive to such spoken resonances that came from a political loser who currently--by deceit, for that matter--holding office as New Orleans' mayor. Nagin's no dummy in that he knows such political tatics can gain majority votes from a "minority" race of people.

Ray Nagin, as New Orleans' mayor, is by far the city's worst --and his own worst--enemy, letting such negative statements offend the empowered who can help in the city's recovery from Katrina.

Especially after the "Chocolate City" racist statements, made you-- on Martin Luther King, Jr. day--I'd expect a greater sense of adult maturity from Nagin in his role as New Orleans' mayor and elected leader. Nagin is a desperate man apt to using cheap racist statements to gain African-American sentiments.

It's clear Nagin is not only "reverse" racist, but he's a sore embarrassment to Louisiana worth ignoring completely.

it's always someone elses fault.... until he stands up and admits he screwed up and let his people perish -they will not come back. while some many have lost everything, they have picked up from the help of neighboring towns, citites and states and have decided to stay put. i live in florida and we have numerous people who have come and now are staying here.
he is a sad pathetic little man. i'm just so sick and tired of people blaming everything on someone else - instead of standing up and admitting - we screwed up! look at mayor barber - they didn't have the same problems in mississippi.

Good ole Ray, if you look at his side of the story he is right. People are not coming back, if they are to what. He cannot give them jobs, housing and safety. People who are not coming back have found out there are other places than NOLA. If he wanted them to stay he should have personally bussed them all out when he had the chance.
