Absolutely no relationship. Though they could fall in the same plane, they can have any relationship to each other at all since they form in entirely different ways.

The foliating is caused by heat and pressure. If the heat is high enough to actually melt the rock it becomes igneous though. You can tell a lot about what kind of pressure there was on the rock by the foliations.
