Galway is one of the first areas to be hit by rains developed from low pressure system which are formed over the Atlantic ocean when blown over from America. These low pressure systems usually lose power and dissipate over Ireland and the UK as the temperatures fluctuate as well as the terrain of the land.

All in all, the low pressure systems which produce the rain have not had sufficient land to dissipate and weaken before hitting Galway, thus a lot of rain.
