You need to be a very good public speaker and you need to read a lot. You need 4 years university minimum for a B.A., then from 2 to 4 more years law school. Then you article with a law firm. There are not that many jobs because so many do it. I know three people who did it and quit. It really helps if your father or mother is a successful lawyer. If it's something you really want to do, go for it, otherwise look around.

Besides what's already been said, have a big mouth, enjoy arguing, always have to have the last word, enjoy spending hours on end researching caselaw, enjoy doing LOTS of writing based on the caselaw you research, be the kind of person who never backs down. I could go on and on, but it would take all day.
Oh, and one more thing: be prepared to spend long, treacherous hours working for a big defense firm that defends big companies when they get sued. That's the only way to make decent money as a lawyer these days, as big business pulls the legal strings in this country and the rest of us have very little voice left in the legal system.

As there are many areas of the Law, just about any personality can find an area that suits them. There is just to name a few, trial lawyers, corporate law, criminal lawyers, family law.so you need to decide hat suits you...law school applicants must take the LSAT and have a degree from a university or college..as for what you should major in in college, there is no preferred major, you can go to law school with any degree, law schools prefer that you choose area that requires you to think, research, and write..basically something that challenges you..Philosophy majors score the best on the LSAT..followed by English and history majors...your local college or University also usually has practice LSAT sessions, which I highly recommend you sit in for( since the LSAT is expensive to take)...you must also provide a personal statement in your law school application, and letters of reference..law schools prefer letters from your instructors, as they will be better able to tell if you have what it takes to make it in post graduate courses ( law school)..you will need to go to an accredited ABA school..here is a list of top ranked schools www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/law/lawindex_brief.php
also some more info on the LSAT
www.lsat.org
it has a practice test on this link as as well..not to worry if you think the questions are impossible..after you take a logics and practical reasoning class in college, it will walk you through how to get the answer..Best of Luck! God Bless!

When I started my classes I was told that I would need to be able to stand my ground and be pretty thick skinned.
I'm considering a change in my major, though, because as I have found you also have to be able to not see people as people, but as pawns and I'm unable to do that.

I myself am in law school and one of my teachers once asked my class which type of law we wanted to practise. he also said that for every type of law there are different characteristics that people can/should have. so I think anyone can go for it. Inmy school at least they have classes about how you can best argue your case and all that so all you need to know you can work on in school.

You should be very smart. You should be able to lie well. You should not have a conscience. You should only care about money and your clients and yourself.
