the older son gets shot (and killed?) by the military police who come to find who's shot the American woman played by Cate Blanchet.
if you mean in the desert in Mexico,
nope, they get found and taken home.

If you mean the American kids; no, they didn't. They were rescued by Border Patrol and the babysitter was subsequently deported.
