This was the precise investment advice offered by the most brilliant man to ever walk the earth.

The return is eternal life, in a manner far beyond that imaginable by even the most savvy of mortals.

Why do so very few rich people get it?

I thought they were smart. What's their hang-up? Do they so love property after death that they just can't part with it?

Isn't this evidence of insecurity? Of utter foolishness?

Why don't the wealthy want eternal life?

Was Jesus wrong?

I'm sorry I can't remember where I saw this, but I recently read a study about why the rich don't give more away. Basically they rationalize their good luck-why they are wealthy and others are poor. For example, they think it was entirely because of their hard work and effort and if others (the poor) would do likewise, they could be just as wealthy. Unfortunately, many of the rich inherited their money and thus had access to a better education and more from the getgo. For example, if dad has money, and you want to be a lawyer, you have a better chance of having an internship clerking for a judge while in law school because daddy lunches with him at the club. Another reason is that everyone seems to spend what they get-your lifestyle reflects your salary. So the rich have the BMW, the million dollar house, the air fare, and so on and so on.

A lot of the wealthy set up trust funds to take care of their families after they are gone. As far as giving their wealth to the poor, if you mean all they have, then you, as Jesus told the Pharisees, you err and do not understand the scriptures. All our Lord asks is ten percent of your increase. This amount should go to the poor. This is called tithing. The churches can also ask members to fast one day a month, and give ten times the cost of the two meals missed by their family. The heads of the church can use this money to help the poor. If every church used tithing and fast offerings, they would have more than enough to help the poor in their congregations, and build what they want, with excess left over. The Lord promised if the people would pay their tithings, He would open the windows of Heaven and pour out more Blessings than they could hold. It's not a sin to be rich, and take care of your family, if you also pay tithing to your church.

Because they wouldn't have gotten wealthy by thinking that way. They sure wouldn't stay wealthy by the same kind of thinking.
Many rich people ARE extremely charitable. Because they can afford to be. Rich doesn't always mean greedy or wrong-some folks are just lucky or smart enough to seize an opportunity.
I'm not wealthy myself, but I can understand how the rich got that way.

As far as eternal life and whether or not Jesus was right or wrong-I have no idea. I kinda put that in the same bucket as the radical Muslim thinking about paradise and the truckload of virgins. My opinion? "Smart" is a relative term. "Smart" depends on exactly where you happen to be standing.

I'm sure plenty of wealthy people give millions to people all over the world, such as Oprah or Bill Gates. We only see the surface of these people and never know how much they truly give. Some plenty i'm sure and some like alot of people rich and poor not so much . Plus theres alot of other ways to give besides money.

Well, this sounds great and all, but...

What about the kids and other family members of the rich guy who left no provision for them in his will? They'll all be wishing he'd go to hell, even if it turns out otherwise.

Just because he worked his behind off all his life (and maybe got a little lucky) to earn a fortune doesn't mean he has to force his kids to do the same.

No I don't belive Jesus was wrong, what he was saying is was not to let your possessions own you. To me simply because a wealthy person can surround them selves with fine and exquisite material possession does not mean that person has class. Whats in that persons heart is what makes the difference.

Wealthy men do not sell all they have and give it to the poor because: they can't afford the taxes.
