We bought my son a laptop last year for his 16th Birthday.

After looking everywhere we paid £560 for a fantastic Acer 5612wlmi from comet. It has dual core and is about the best speck you can get for the money. Its just under £500 now from comet. Its has dual core, 80 gig hard drive, dual layer dvd re-writer, 1gb ram and 224mb graphics and my son uses it for web design.

We were that impressed with it we replaced our 3 year old rubbish packard bell pc with another Acer laptop same spec as my sons but without dual core.

We are now completely wireless and have a netgear dg834G modem router which copes very well with having both laptops and an xbox 360 online at the same time. The netgear is very easy to set up and configure. Once its set up to your main pc you can copy the setting with a usb flash drive onto your laptop. Look at comet site and also ebuyer as the links below.

You can get a wireless router, like netgear, which can be plugged in along with your current desktops router and setup a wireless network. That's what we do at my house for our three laptops and one desktop.

I would recommend one of these hp laptop, just whatever you do do not get a dell. Very bad computer, tech support bites.

And when you go to buy your laptop, this is very important, make sure that you get the recovery disk for it. If you order off the manufacture website, you can simply select for the cd's to be sent with it. Otherwise if you buy it from a store and the computer doesn't come witht he cd's, then you can call the manufacture and ask them to send the cd's for you.

I just posted the same question. I asked what kind of brand is best. I think a silver dell laptop and broadband internet connection.

Have a good evening and please leave a comment if you pick me as best answer.
