I hope you get to read this before yahoo decides to delete my answer. They will most certainly call this a violation because of my defense, while they ignore the usual racist name-calling from certain quarters. This question has been asked so many times, I wasn't going to respond, but one person who answered stated that blacks flock together, talk about sports, etc. (unlike white people?). You have your answer right there. That is a perfect example of racism and stereotyping. This person listed all the generalizations that came to her mind and used them to define black people and justify why whites dislike black people. All over the world, there are people who literally live and breathe sports and this person thinks only blacks do that. Think of soccer games where Europeans notoriously fight one another. Don't they take their sports seriously?

As for the implication that blacks are not dedicated to their work, I have to respond to such hogwash. It is ironic that while so many white people continually seek out the black/brown-skinned people of the world to wash, cook and clean their houses so that they don't have to, we still see remarks about blacks being dirty and lazy. I could be a billionaire if I collected a dollar for all the times a white person has asked me if I know of a "girl" meaning a black woman who could clean house for them and they think it's perfectly normal to ask me that.

Some of these so-called liberal people have deep seated prejudices and cover it up with words and pretense, and black people might not always confront them but definitely see right through it. The biggest myth is that service people such as yourself went abroad to fight for the rights of England, US, etc. You were told that when you enlisted, and your heart may have been in the right place. Sadly, you are now finding out upon your return that you are still seen as a "n" by the very same people you thought you were protecting. My heart goes out to you for your bravery because I understand the horrors that service people experienced. I can only say one thing to give you hope. Remember that when you gave your service, it was not because England or the US are perfect or ideal lands. Your service was given with the hope that the day would come when your country would provide your offspring and the children of their children with liberty , even if you never received it in your lifetime. Don't be disheartened by the meanness of some people. Please take hope. May God bless you.

My dear brotha, I feel you, and relate to everything that you have said. I live the exact experience, only from a Black female perspective, so I get a double dose, (female & Black) and like you I wonder how some people have the ability to hate another based on skin color alone.

I know that hatred is taught in some homes, but very few Black homes teach their children to hate.can only say, please read carefully the comments of bombasti, he was right on time, in the meantime, we must play out this hand that life has dealt us, we are Strong, Kind, Loving people. We will get through this. Unlike some of our fair skin counterparts, they could not withstand the daily insults, acts of racism, blatent disprespect that we endure.

I pray that God continues to Bless and stenghten you.

I wish I could give a better answer for why that is so but I do not understand either. I am not black so I can only say I am sorry that you must endure that. I promise you that I have not or will not ever judge anyone that way. I speak up when I hear others do it and never allow racial put-downs in my presence without making a statement. If we each can change it a little perhaps someday it will end.

It's all about intolerance. Many people in united states are intolerant of other, be it may by the same race or ethnicity. Why? It's just how they are brought up. Most of all people in united states are more likely to judge others by stereotyping, because that way they can feel more superior to others.
I'm half asian and half dutch, however I look more asian just like my mom and my brother looks like a white european just like my dad. Because of that, most people think that if you're asian you are smart, you know martial arts and you are stingy. Which is not true, I won't say that I'm smart, I just have more common sense than others, martial arts, nope.
Others think that if you are black you are more likely a drug dealer a lazy bum, undereducated, I'll tell you what, my boyfriend is not lazy, he just got out of the army, he has a bachelors degree, and he has a bakery bussiness of his own.
Like I was saying, people make stereotypes, because they can feel better about themself, knowing that they themself are most likely what they make fun of other people.

I have no idea. I have seen so many people who just live on stereotypes that it's ridiculous. If I happen to be in a bad mood, it's because I'm a Black woman. But, if a White girl is in a bad mood, she's just a jerk. There no consistency. You are judged every day and every second. If it weren't for God, I don't know what I'd do.

I hear ya brotha: Here's what I as a white man get to live with..

Blacks who think I was born into wealth just because I'm a white male. Therefore I don't get as many scholarship opportunities in college. While wealth black students get minority scholarships so they can accessorize their BMW's.

Employers who have to hire women and blacks before me, because of things that happened 200 years before I was born, even IF my ancestors didn't own slaves.

Employers who's "sensativity" films always portray perpetrators of racist, sexist or homophobic comments to my race and gender.

While blacks complain about "driving while black" which can amount to a 50 dollar ticket, I have to deal with "working while a white man" and if I'm accused of sexism, racism or any other "ism" I'm automatically guilty until proven innocent. This can lead to loss of a job, or the innability to get a promotion. I cannot "counter" any such claim with an "ism" of my own, like black men can.

Losing promotions to minorities for the same reason as stated before, knowing I have more experience and knowledge.

Getting told "blacks and minorities have to work TWICE as hard" for any given job, or promotion WITHOUT any proof or evidence, yet they forget to mention that it is PERFECTLY LEGAL AND ACCEPTABLE to discriminate against me.

Having absolutely NO MEDIA coverage exposing these injustices, because it's just not that important..similar to what blacks had to put up with prior to the 1960's.

The only difference is I DON'T need a handout because I can work around it and still succeed.

P.S I can get white women WITHOUT having to play the race card. You know what I mean brothas.." What up white girl, you don't go out with brothas?? Are you racist???"

Well, if your going on statistics, and things you've heard on the news then you need to stop taking these as personal attacks on you. Statistics are just that, plain and simple, and not so simple. Based on statistics with my background I should be unmarried with a dozen kids from different men, be a smoking, drinking, drug addicted slut living in a trailer park. Wow, it's a miracle I made it through so far as none of those things! Stop taking things so personally, live Your Life, not the life others think you should be living based on demographics alone.

Hate may be to strong a word. I prefer dislike because of one, the music MOST blacks prefer (which I do hate). Two, the desire of so many blacks to be tribal. What seems to be a natural instinct to flock together and have power in numbers which is most evident with the history of Africa. I have noticed that a group of blacks can gather and talk for hours and enjoy the art of joking with a disdain for work and a love of sports, money and the opposite sex. This is not stereotyping but a strong cultural trait like, Italians with pasta or the French with wine. Any culture that has dominant characteristics can be offensive to others. We are not all created equal in taste.

I used to feel the same way Vhee. I'm a Marine Corps Veteran. I realized that I'm not the one with the problem. They are. (Racists) You keep trooping and don't let anyone see you sweat. You're not alone my friend! God Bless You too!

Ignore them, friend. If you're a gulf war vet, they (and me) owe you a serious measure of gratitude. If you are working with non-racists who merely have ingrained biases, you'll overcome that with hard work. Otherwise, there's nothing you can do except try to prove them wrong. I hope things work out for you--God Bless you too, friend and good luck.
