They are Americans period! I think it is time that we quit using adjectives which denote race. It is insulting to these good people.

Some of us feel more culturally, spiritually, etc. attached to people we feel may better share our views and beliefs. They also serve, in the very least, a utilititarian purpose. Police need to be able to accurately describe suspects to each other, and the media, and dark complected male of african descent, frankly is ineffecient. I personally prefer the term African American. Black sounds crude, and if you look up black in the dictionairy it is conotated with everything negative. I do not find either term insulting though. It is also arbitrary that you draw the line at race. Why not nationality. There is no scientific basis for nationality either, and it could be argued that seeing ourselves as human might at least alleviate some of our conflicts. I personally like being black, I could try to classify myself as just an American, but in my mind that's just trying to blend us all together, and disregard the racial struggles that have divided this country since inception. Anyone is free to call themselves American, Black American, or African American as they well please. I know what I am.

I reaaly don't think its being raciest! Black american, mexican american, irish american, italian american, etc is merely a way of stating someones nationality. way does everything have to be so negative? yes were are all americans, but we are also made up of all nationalities!

I am an American, yes it's true. Yet until the day someone can describe me without saying , "The big Black Guy over there", what will you have me do? If you stop seeing color, we'll stop using it!

To single yourself out as "African American" or "Mexican American", "Italian American"...or whatever the case may be...
is racist against White European Americans that built this country.
