I don't agree that as an athiest i have turned my back on anyone. I don't hate christians some of my friends are christian. Christians don't have a monopoly on good deeds. You can easily find Athiests feeding and clothing the poor and needy. The difference is we do good deeds because it is the right thing to do and not for some imagined reward in a fabled next life.

I haven't turned my back on god as "he" never existed. I visit the sick and the needy I have help through donations and working at food banks. Prayers do nothing but action does. My neighbor who had a heart attack had his lawn mowed and his kids looked after by my kids, my wife and me, while his so called church "friends" prayed but did little else. I know first hand. I hate beliefs that impede progress ie. stem cell research or safety and well being Jehovah's Witnesses blocking blood transfusions (new blood is needed in blood banks)

Christianity has no monopoly on god. I do not accept the Christian interpretation of god, and that makes me a target for Christian intolerance. Their definition of "well being" boils down to: join us or burn in our mythical hell. Even though their hell does not exist, the sentiment is still insulting and rather disturbing that people who claim good intentions could be so evil-minded and arrogant.
