people who know many languages are often just called multilingual. you can be an interpreter, a translator (books, for example). you can get into foreign relations, international diplomacy, international business and finance. there are indeed many careers available to a multilingual person that pay well. some companies offer higher salaries to multilingual individuals as compared to their unilingual peers. mastery of a foreign language presents options and opportunities for career advancement.

a linguist is an expert in human speech and language. many linguists are multilingual.

You could be a translator or interpreter.

I have no idea how much that pays. It could range depending on your position.

A linguist is a person who studies languages academically. Someone who knows many languages may or may not also be a linguist. Someone who knows many languages is just somebody who knows many languages.

A multi-lingual person could work as a language teacher or as an interpreter for companies that work in many languages. If you speak Spanish, you might even be able to work for a local hospital or medical center as an interpreter. One weakness of many interpreters that I have noticed is that they speak the foreign language very well bc it's their native language, but their knowledge of English can be poor.
