Well the good thing about taxes is getting history out of them so you should visit the property register office and check and once you get the names of the people that lived there you may go to the historic archive of the city and start searching for this people you may get marriage dates or birth sheets and from there go and search for old papers to get a background of the house!!! good luck

You don't get the deeds when buying property in France.

However, the property registration office (cadastre) carries some history.

If it is an old property, you won't find much before the revolution.

There may be older documents in the local library, and there may be a local history society who can help.
