This is probably indicative of the human psyche in general - seeking meaning and reasons for things they do not understand.

I have often been bemused by this too - for example, say a dream about an aeroplane meaning x, y or z - yet aeroplanes have only been invented in modern times!? So for this to be universally the 'meaning' of this dream then it would surely have to cover all historical, cultural and anthropological divides which it and many other dream analysis' do not.

Great Q

Some dreams mean nothing whatsoever but generally dreams are your minds way of dealing with the days events and what is going on in your life. When people don't sleep they can't cope with things and this isn't just because of tiredness, it is also because your mind has not had the chance to sort out things. That is also why, when you get really upset or down and it all seems bleak in the evening / night, a good night's sleep will make things seem so much better the next day.
So dreams do mean things and sometimes, especially when the dream has been particularly vivid, you need to understand what it means to you and your life. You always know when a dream is important (at least I always do) because you can remember every detail and you think about the dream a lot.

People have wondered about the meaning of their dreams as far back as Egyptian and Jewish history and throughout the Orient. Some people would predict disasters or forebodings in dreams, others their own future. But in those days people were more spiritually connected and there wasn't so many distractions.
We are not that spiritually connected in modern times and think dreams have deep meanings when mostly its just our subconscious letting off steam from the past few days.

Many dreams do having meanings. People who can see into the future many times find their answers through their dreams. Many times dreams do bring answers to daily issues so, yes to your question. This is not always so but for some, this is true. It may not always follow this path for everyone though.

Funny I was just thinking how many questions there were about dreams and wondering what they have to do with psychology.
