7am is the busiest time of day in Dublin Airport as flights are leaving to almost every major city in Europe between 7am and 8am.
I would take heed of the warnings. The security queues take a long time to go through. Sometimes they insist on shoes and belts off.

My boyfriend's mum goes from Dublin airport when she goes on holiday but she hasn't said anything about the queues being desperately long or undue delays. I do know that people suggest that you make things as easy for yourself ie wear footwear that is fairly easy to take off and put back on afterwards ie no Doc Martens or other boots! But if you do go to the airport 3 hours before, if they can't check you in for the first hour, you could always get a newspaper or have a cup of coffee/tea to pass the time. When my boyfriend and I go on an early flight, we bring a newspaper from the previous day to read.

I just flew in from Dublin tonight. There were no queues at all (at 5pm). My flight was at 7.25pm and I checked in at 5.30pm, went straight through to departures and had a leisurely hour in the food court! The only short delay was removing shoes, putting cosmetics in a bag, etc, but still it did not take long. I always find that 2 hours prior to flight time allows ample time and certainly no more than two and a half hours is necessary. Have a good trip.

Hello SH.
I have never had any serious delays at Dublin, or Shannon, for that matter, simply because I always complied with the basics of the rules of entry, even back in the days of red / green lanes, and always caught my Air plane, in and out of the places. If the rules say be at the check-in place 3 hours before departure, just be there, and put up with the wait, it is still going to be quicker than Ferries, etc. and if every one that was travelling complied with the rules everyone would get away sooner or at least, on time. I think 3 hours is a bit overlong a check-in time though, I would call the Airport and check their requirements, thr reward could be you get an extra hour of sleep. I hope it all works out for you and you njoy a safe trip,,..Bye..............Tony M

security is a night mare at many airports now, stansted is my most recent experience, where check in has improved a little cause ryanair seem to have put on extra staff to speed up the process, you still need to be there two hours in advance. Then you queue for up to an hour to get through the security check at the passport check as you move to the waiting area for boarding, so i would think the minimum time you need in the terminal is two hours.

We nearly missed our flight from Birmingham to Dublin due to this problem but not from Dublin to Birmingham.
There is no point going 3 hours before as you can't check in till 2 hours before anyway.
Though I would recommend once you have checked in you go straight through to departures rather than having a cider like us girls did!
Good luck & have a good flight!

many times queues at security checks have taken a long time, and generally ak you to take mobile, keys, coins, jewellery off, or out of bag and put on tray, also take off shoes, jacket belts etc and put on conveyor belt, this can take some time to get everyone through, and esp at other side people organising themselves again with shoes etc. however, i think it depends , i went to lanzorote over xmas from dublin, and no probs at all, didnt have to take off shoes or coat at all, v casual about it, and only took a second,so i think it can vary..
check in times , 3 hours is prob too early , maybe 2 hrs enough to give yourself.

I flew from Dublin last year back to Doncaster and we came straight through - If you do need clarification just phone the airport up and they'll tell you if any temporary 'extra' security measures are in place.

2 hours is usually enough but once checked in you should go straight through security because time to get through there can be an hour at some busy times.
