Have an HP PSC 500 - great!!

With regard to the high cost of cartridges, as in most things buying over the net saves you pounds - I have just purchased two HP black inkjet cartridges (not cheap copies) for half the RRP. Even with p+p it has saved me money. Visit "Cartridge People"...

I had nothing but Canon printers for almost 10 years, until the last one, and that finished me for Canon. The print cartridges were too expensive and it required a new print head at $65+ a whack, once or twice a year. And, Canon wouldn't stand behind it. All they would offer is 20% off a new printer, if I took the crippled one 120 miles to their nearest repair place.

I bought an HP DeskJet 5440 at Office Depot for about the same as the cost of the Canon print head; I can buy the color cartridges at Wal-Mart for under $20 each (black less than $16). Black I can have refilled at Walgreens for less than $9. I print mostly in black, and use draft quality, but when I want first quality color printing, it's there. I can heartily recommend this little HP printer for cost, quality and ease of installation and operation.

The hp is always going to be better value as you can re-fill the ink cartridges. Also they last for ever and the pattern ones are quite cheap from asda or esco.

Which ever machine you decide to go for check out how much the ink cartridges are and the capacity of the cartridges. You might say pay £10 for an epson cartridge compared to £15 for a HP one but if the HP contains more than twice as much ink, which is quite often the case, which is better value.

I had my hp printer for about 3 years now, very reliable and cheap to run and if I was buying another printer, got to be HP.

Both brands are excellent so comes down to personal preference (and budget) really. Personally I use HPs at home although I do have good experience with Canon in the office.

Epsom printer if you are a very low budget, the inks are a lot cheaper than hp, i bought 5 sets of inks for my epsom R 200
they were less than £30. You would pay more than that for 1 set of hp.

Both have good names.

I don't have a Canon.

I have two HPs and can personally attest to their good support which, as far as I'm concerned, is as important as the price.

Epson will be an economical buy. The cartridges are much cheaper. As well as the sites mentionned by Johncob, you can them from ezeinks.co.uk very cheap.
