How do you know if someone is homozygous or heterozygous? Like, say I have brown hair and my boyfriend has a different color hair and we want to see what color our children will have, how do we find that out? I know we have to use a punnett square but how do I know if I'm homozygous or heterozygous as well as him?

you have to look at your parents and grandparents. if your parents are brown haired, then they are either homozygous dominant or heterozygous. do the same for your grandparents. If your parents are blond (or in your case, only one could be) then he/she is homozygous recessive, and you would have to be heterozygous. also, look at your siblings. For example, if you have a sister with blond hair, then your parents are both heterozygous, and you could either be heterozygous or homozygous dominant. hope that helps!

well, you can't tell if you're homozygous dominant or heterozygous, they look the same...you can tell if someone is homozygous recessive though
