In India, the metropolitan city is used in various sense. While the four main cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai are of course metropolitan cities, several other cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad also proclaim to be metropolitan. What is the definition of metropolitan cities in India?

A city in India is classified into categories according to the total population under one local governing body, whereas urban agglomerations includes more than one local governing body. So which city should be classified as Metropolitan city solely depends upon the population governed by the Municipal Corporation alone, leave aside other governing bodies like cantonment board, municipal council, notified area committee etc that may be a part of urban agglomeration. From this it is clear that only those cities should be enlisted as Metropoliton cities that have a population of over 4 million under one local governing body

The city which has a hetrogenous population consisting of multi cultural and multi religious nature and still having a typical composit culture is turmed as a metopolitan city.

the city in which medical colleges,universities,engineering colleges,international airport,tourist place,railways facility available and municipal population not less than 25 lacs should be declare metropolitin city.I think Lucknow City fullfill above proposed critaria.
