I think we live in an instant gratification kind of society. I want it now and I don't care what happens tomorrow. When they buy that cute little puppy they don't think about the fact that it is going to poop and pee all over their floor and that it is going to chew up their $100.00 pair of shoes. All they care about at that moment is carrying that cute little puppy out the the door in that designer doggie bag.

Alot of people have dogs for the so-called protection they offer. They leave them tied up outside to warm them of people coming near or on their property. Cheap burgler alarms.
I agree with the way you feel. Too many animals are neglected in this world. The sad thing is that most of these animals were given away "free" because people do not neuter and spay their adult animals.
Unfortunately there are always going to be irresponsible pet owners. All we can do is to watch and wait for someone to be wrong in order to call animal control and have these poor neglected animals picked up and adopted to people who will care for them correctly.

It's ignorant and irresponsible. I think once the novelty of a new pet wears off, these people just do the bare minimum to care for said pet. I like to think I do my part to help, as all the dogs I've owned have been shelter mutts who have for whatever reason been abandoned by thier previous owners.

I would think they don't know how much time or work it takes to train and care for an animal. Also many do not know how to train an animal. They see pet owners like me and probably you with well behaved pets and think that's how they come! Then they end up with a distructive animal and chain them outside so they don't ruin their house. I think they wish they'd just go away.

I've asked myself that everytime I have done a euthanasia at the shelter....
People are selffish and ignorant.
I have one woman that I will never forget...she was both.
She was likely a nice woman in a lot of ways, but one day she came into the shelter with a box of puppies.
My question to her was " why didn't you spay your dog?"
She told me she wanted her children to experience the miricle of life.
I starred at this woman with absolute disgust, had her come back to through the kennal and told her to stick around so her children could experience the reality of death. I showed her the dogs that were going to have to be put to sleep because she didn't spay her dog.
She cried..I didn't feel bad.
Later that year...she brought her dog in....she made me sick.

Selfishness, selfishness, selfishness.
They think that since the animal is already born, that a life dumped outside or at the end of a chain is better than no life at all.
