i only have avg free edition, should i loosen up the wallet and by one?

You should follow these setps in this order>
Download and run SpyBot S&D> http://www.safer-networking.org/...
Then you can get a free tool ( Tweak-N-Tune )that will never let your home page be hijacked again. You will have to wait about 20 seconds whenever your computer has to be restarted (to accept the run once application to run at startup)

Go to http://www.download.com/ and get adware se and spybot. Install and update the db. Then scan. If this doesn't work you may have to post more info.

to get rid of spyware get both adaware se personal and spybot search and destroy, they are both free, look for them on google
