On a dell inspiron 6000 how would you make it so that it doesnt go to stand by mode when you close the screen?

Goto your Control Panel and open the Power Options. Here you can set your Standby and Hybernate modes any way you would like.

Go to the control panel and in power options, set it to go into standby when you close the lid.
