Your teacher should have given you some type of clarification on the length of the paper. In high school our research papers had to be anywhere from 4-10 pages long (depending on the class and the subject- I was in AP classes too).

Also, your teacher should have clarified whether he wanted the documentation in MLA or APA format. You can goggle these and find plenty of websites that will offer tips and advice.

The first thing you need to do is develop your thesis statement and then you need to open up the paper with an interesting fact or anything that will "hook" the reader. Then you can begin giving facts and figures. You may want to give some opposing beliefs about the topic, but in high school we never did this (I didn't do that until taking an arguments course in college) and then end the paper by re-stating and summarizing the main points. And always, always document! When you are done, you can email me through my profile and I'd be happy to take a look at your paper.
Good luck!

He did not tell you how many pages? In college most of my profs request only 5 pages, double spaced. Are you using MLA? If so then look up the MLA format on the Internet. Wikipedia is a good place to find info on anything. You should have given yourself more time. Research projects need more attention than essays. But I too procrastinate lol. Just follow his instructions. If MLA is not required then use it anyway! It will knock his socks off. MLA is commonly used in college and will show him you deserve to be in his class.

A research paper, if you ask me, shouldn't matter in length unless you were assigned a length.

What is important is that you make your point and support it with enough research to make a solid, convincing argument in favor of your position.

It also doesn't hurt to find research material that is against your main point and use other research to refute that.

I know my grad school papers are probably much longer, but they usually run around 15 pages. So for you, I'd say 10, give or take.

psyduck702 is 100% correct.

...and as to your assumption about the teacher, it sounds like a cop-out. As an AP English teacher, we ENCOURAGE students to ask questions, not make them feel dumb...how else can you learn? Ask for a rubric from the teacher - it should specify exactly how long the paper should be along with all the internal requirements. Teachers should ALWAYS give you rubrics for papers; if he/she does not have one, please ask him/her to make one for you. Let him/her know that you want to use it as a checklist to be sure you are meeting all the requirements without sounding like "you shouldn't be in AP."

it incredibly is exceptionally humorous... First, you're arranged 'til the final minute to ask a question on a paper due the following day? you're on the information superhighway, so why do no longer you Google/Yahoo it? or you need to use the no longer-so-stable Wikipedia. So why did you wait until eventually the final minute?
