The play is called the double double (or triple). The disadvantage of that is the opponent can intercept it but if you count tiles and know they don't have the tiles to do that, then that's when you can take full advatage.

I've done it, but generally aim to be the one intercepting such moves, as few people I play with track tiles. I love that game!!

Yes I do this many times...I have been busted too, like for example one time I set up the position nicely but my opp played a Z and got a whopping 60 points for one tile alone!

You should always see the tiles left before daring to do this. I play at Scrabulous - http://www.scrabulous.com - and there you can click on the Tiles Left button to see what tiles are left.

At the end of the game when th bag has 0 tiles, you know all the 7 your opponent has. Most don't know this so use this to your advantage :) As per site rules it's allowed!

It can be a risky move, but can payoff big.

By the way, you mentioned tile counting.
Tournament players call it "tile tracking", and it is perfectly legal in tournament play!

I've done it but never got the score, someone always has enough of the right letters to get the big points. When someone else sets it up, I never seem to have any vowels or something and can't take advantage of it.
