It really makes no difference to the kid at all. It's just the preacher's method of trying to form a tighter grip on your life and money.

I don't think it's wrong structure is good in a childs life wheather they agree with you're choices down the road or not if you are christian you will love and accept the childs decisions in life and most likely they will go the right way in life ''just my opinion'' as I just got home from church!!

We just had our son last week.
Being Free of Evangelic, we see it as a step someone makes on their own. The bible states that children will always make it into heaven. Weather that is "under 18" or not... we don't know.
We are, however, chosing to bless our child.
I don't think it is wrong if you want to do it, but you have the right idea about not wanting to force anything upon your child.

In my opinion it really doesn't matter if you have them baptized when they are babies or not. It's a decision they must make when they are old enough to understand.
You could have a comminment ceremony for you, you're child and you're family saying that you will do your job to teach the child the ways of God.

Your child will be able to make his/her own decision when they get older. As Christians we are in essence presenting him to God when we have them Baptized. We are saying We want his Guidance in the upbringing of the Child. I had all 3 of my children Baptized at an early age and when they were older they chose on their own to accept Christ.

I got my little girl christened when she was a baby, basically dedicating her back to God, but I will let her decide when she gets older if she wants to be baptized or not. Just ask your pastor to have her christened..not baptized! Oh, and don't forget the camera!!!!

Let the child decide for themselves later in life. Then it will actually mean something rather than it just being put upon them when they were unable to comprehend what was happening.

It is pretty early to get your get baptised. How about getting them christianed first that way they can either decide to get baptised or you can decide for them later. Plus you have to wait years to get them baptised anyway, and you get get them christianed right away.
