You are lucky you get any money. They do not have to pay you anything to live in their house, eat their food, use their phones, and watch their TV. If you are doing some chores good for you. You should help out. It is called responsibility. I thought cleaning a room was hard. Try cleaning a whole house after 3 kids. ARGH!

I know I'm from the other side - I'm a MUM - a parent - but I'm going to ask a few questions so maybe you'll see hoe spoiled that question sounded even if you didn't mean it that way.
Do you get $10 for doing anything like chores - getting good grades - for doing something for your parents or for the family or is it just that you get $10 a week just because you get it.

If it's the first and you earn it, then talk to your parents about increasing your responsibilities and therefore increasing your allowance. But if its just because you are you - well I hate to tell you - you are not entitled to any $ a week.

Take a second to see what your parents already spend on you -

clothes - you need new ones every year for school and every summer and what about shoes, how many pair do you have?

food - meals at home and school lunch money each week

sports or clubs that you are in - there are fees for that as well as the equipment

you're on a computer so is it yours or the family's?

Gas - how often do they drive you places

I think you get the idea and that you can come up with more

Think about doing more around the house - maybe you'll get more

You think your parents are cheap because you "only" get $10 a week? What about the thousands of 13 year olds in this country that get less allowance or none at all? The highest paid 13 year old that I have met (and believe me I know a lot of 13 year olds) got $60 a month, and she deserved it. She did chores, got A's in all of her classes (which were all gifted) and she took care of her two younger sisters. You get paid $40 dollars a month, and you complain that it should be $80? YOU ARE BEING A SPOILED BRAT. When I was 13 I got no allowance from my mom and a maximum of $5 a month from my dad. Yes it is true that I my parents bought me everything I wanted, but I didn't ask for much. The most I ever asked for was a pack of gum. My only source of money was from birthdays and Christmas, and the only thing I spent it one was gift for my parents, and the rest I put in the bank. In those thirteen year of my life, I saved about $1900. That is less than what you would make in four years, but I was proud that I was able to save that much. And if you think that I came from a poor family, you are mistaken, my mom was fairly wealthy, and just did not want to spoil my brothers and I. When I was 13, I wasn't allowed to even go to the mall and places with my friends so I really had no need for money. So if you telling me that you need to get at least get $1080 a year, even when your parent provide you with a home, good food and clothing, then you are going to have a hell of a surprise when you go live one your own, when you have your own job and home and have to provide your own food, and possible support your own children. So instead of complaining to your parents, you should be thanking them.

STOP COMPLAINING! At least you get an allowance. Maybe they can't afford more. I don't get any allowance and never had. I turn 14 in 6 days. I do the dishes and I do other chores. I watch my little sister all the time...literally all the time. I watch her after school pretty much every day, and overnight 3 times a week...and I don't even get paid for that. So when I hear about people like you who are complaining because 'you don't have enough money' I get angry. You have it better than a lot of people so be quiet about it. You're parents are not cheap, they don't have to give you anything. You should thank them and be greatful that you get anything.

wow. $10 a week? Ha! I don't get an allowance and I'm 16! Sweetheart, what would you spend the money on? There aren't that many CD's out there and all of your clothes are probably bought by your parents, right?

I wish I got an allowance. But, like the real world, I have a job. I clean someone else's home for $25 per cleaning. Try hard work in exchange for money.

Kid, be lucky you get $10 a week, because I'm 17 and I never got an allowance. In fact, I don't think kids deserve an allowance unless they are pulling some significan weight around the house.

I'd love to see you in my position. See, I need to pay for my car, my car insurance, prom stuff, graduation stuff, senior year activities, COLLEGE, etc. Know how I'm paying for it? I joined the Army two months ago, so not only do I have a job, I have a life-long CAREER making sure that kids like you are even able to get allowances. Be thankful, because there are millions of kids who would love to get even half as much as you do.

What do you need $80 a month for? You don't have a car, you don't need gas money. I only got $10 a week for gas when I turned 16...then they told me to get a job and earn my own money, which I've been doing ever since. If you want a raise in your allowance, bargain by offering to do more chores around the house...then actually following through on it. If your parents are paying for school expenses and clothes and driving you places...you definitely don't need $20 a week.

I'll bet your parents take care of all that you need and then some. $10 a week should be plenty....you should even be able to save a few bucks. They're giving you a chance to learn the value of a dollar. Show them that you can do it...do more chores without being asked and don't say anything. When they see you acting more grown up they'll treat you that way and you'll be able to negotiate for more allowance. It's all about cooperation....everybody pitching in to get things done....no whining allowed. Give it a try...good luck!

why do you think you should get $20? what chores do you do around the house.
are you neat and tidy, do you do what you are asked without a lot of lip?
are you responsible and put 25% of your allowance into a savings account for a rainy day?
are you responsible?
do you get good grades.
do you think that you deserve it?
can your parenst trust you?
how finanical off are you parents? can they afford the $20?
would you just blow it if you had it?
what would you do with $20 a week?
my 12 years old daughter makes $5.00 a week (that she can just blow) and she has 13 things that she has to do every day and every other day to EARN her money
good luck

wow, you really are a brat. i get 10$ allowance n i'm 13. i like my allowance. only semi-rich guys like my friend Truman get 20$. you should find a way to figure out the value of a dollar, as they say.
can't you get what you want already? your parents aren't being cheap, they're being generous to even give you allowance. most 13-year olds only get 5$.
