fireplace and we cannot see him or where he has gone. Does anyone have any ideas how we can coax him out. Our 6 year is beside himself and we are growing concerned. Thanks in advance.

Most hamsters are nocturnal so i would try to make the room as dark as possible without blocking your vision. Also making a lot of noise will scare him and he will stay there longer. You should put a little bit of food out and make a little bit of noise, just with the food, hamsters are very curious and will most likely come out to see what the noise is. Then when he is in sight he will come all the way out to the food pile a couple of inches away and start to eat, silently you can scoop him up. I hope this works, and good luck.

delma time leave food out for it dont be pulling out the fire place esp if you have gas might cost you if you damage something ,well the hamster will come out a night time why dont you stay up over night in the area where the hamster is most couches are comfortable block off all areas apart from where it got in on the first place or if you dont like that idea do u have a web cam you could set it up with you being in another room to watch for it to come out hope this helps i wouldnt like being stuck behind a fire place hope its not a white hamster its going to be a nice new colour BLACK

hi my friend lost her hamster so she made a humane trap by putting some food in the bottom of a bucket with a wooden ramp leading up to it, leave a small amount of food at the bottom of the ramp and a little trail going up it (not too much or he'll get full and not attempt the ramp). then wait for his hunger to get the better of him. it took 3 days but my friend eventually caught the little scamp! as for your child why not make up a story about the hamster going to visit relatives or going on his holidays (lame i know but 6 year olds believe anything) then he may not be as distressed, good luck anyway x

Try putting out his favourite food in a trail to his cage. Or if all else fails get another hamster, a female, she'll coax him out in no time..

Probably best not to cluck around the area as he won't come out if there's noise and stuff. Maybe leave something tasty out on the base of the fireplace maybe move his cage there??? If not you could try a humane trap with food.. ie one that doesn't kill it!!!

Might be wise to get rid of any mouse traps. Put food in the cage near where you saw him last. He probably will smell home and run toward the food and water.

Just leave him, He'll probably come out soon. And put their cage with the door open near the fireplace so he can just run in.

Sorry if this doesn't work. Hope it comes out soon!
