Yes, it was glasses. His eyes were very poor. I forget the number he went through during the war but he did have the glasses fly off from his face during one exchange.

socks is my best guess.
you have to maintain healthy feet.
The humidity would be horrible.
Unless you changed your socks frequently, you would have lots of blisters.
