We are moving to Fort Eustic, Virginia. I would like to know if there is a way to find out more information about the surrounding area. We are looking to buy a house this move. I want to know if there is a way to find out crime rates, schools in the local area. Things that are important when buying a house that realtors don’t tell you or can’t.

I'm a military wife and am also moving around that area very soon. A fellow military spouse advised me to NOT move near Newport News or Hampton. THe crime rates are VERY high there. You can go to the city police websites to look for yourself.

I think I've decided on moving to Yorktown, VA. In 2005, CNN rated it the 33rd best place to live in the US. The schools there are very good. One of them won an award that is only given to 50 schools in the United States. Yorktown is expensive though, but it's about 15 minutes from Fort Eustis. Another good area is Gloucester, but it is about 40 minutes.

Good Luck!
