The reason I am asking is the soil does not look like the natural soil you have in nature. It is darker and just not as dense. Just not like something you would find in nature. The bean plant seems to like it a lot, but I just was not sure if the benas are ok to eat. Anyone use the same type of "artificial" soil to grow vegetables?

All soil mix packages should state on the back their appropriate usage. Always read the back and front of the package. They will state if they are safe for container usage, or can only be used in regular soil. I don't know of any package soil that could not be used with vegetables or fruits. Packaged soil usually has many types of product in the mix, some allow for better soil aeration, water absorption, and some have growth food as well.

Just read the labels. Unless it states it cannot be used for vegetables, there shouldn't be a problem.

I have been growing vegetables in containers for years and always use packaged soil (usually Miracle Grow or Sta Green) with no problem whatsoever. Enjoy!!

Of course they're OK to eat. In fact, they might even be better to eat than the ones grown out in the ground. Potting soil is just dirt with fertilizers in it and materials to keep it aerated and light. Your bean plants like it a lot because it's soil that's pretty good for plants. Have fun and enjoy your beans!

I've used the supermarket potting soil to grow tomatoes and ate them with no ill effects. The bagged potting soil has peat moss and maybe some vermiculite (little white things that look kind of like styrofoam). Those are to aerate the soil and allow it to hold moisture.
