What is the name of the literary term that an author uses to creat coincidences between characters? For example, two characters meet, and in the end they find out they are brother and sister

Deus ex machina. Literally it means, "God of the machine". What it really means is that the writer is like God in relation to his/her story. Even if there is no realistic way certain things can happen, a writer can make those things happen in a story just because it is his/her story. For example, in the movie, "The Matrix" there is no realistic way Neo can beat up Mr. Smith. But he does.
