This question comes up in quizzes and the answer given is that it is black (so that no-one can read what she has blotted). But how would you know if this is true - not just something that gets copied from one quiz to the next? Like the question about military equestrian statues - supposedly the number of hooves raised shows how the rider died, whether on the battle-field or not. This turns out to be false, according to Snopes.com (and the UK quiz show, QI), but it still comes up in quizzes.
And what colour is the "black box" flight recorder carried on aeroplanes? And how do you know?

I remember seeing a documentary about the queen and she didn't have blotting paper. It was one of those semi-circular sponge type things that she used.

Military statues traditionally had the horse with raised front legs if the subject died in battle.

The 'Black Box' is coloured bright orange, the same colour as life rafts, so that it can be found easily. Although not coloured black it is so called because when the flight recorders were first invented they were coloured black.

Black, to hide the writing.
Black boxes are bright orange to make them easier to find, aren't they?
Edit: Equestrian statues, it's a myth, it means nothing apparently!

The black box in an aeroplane is orange

1. Grey and dull.

2. The black box may be black, but, it seems to have been designed never to be found in case of an accident (not at night anywhay - hence the colour). When in the sea, it's been designed not to float. It has no flares, signalling system, light or other gadget which would make for its easy retrieval.

Why they designed such a hopeless gadget expecting it to
contain the answers in case of a mishap, nobody knows.

Unroftunately, this question points out the major flaw in this site- you just have to trust what people tell you. Maybe if enough people believe it, it'll become true.
