It doesn't matter if you touch the rope or step over the rope,if you are holding the ball it is still a six.You are only out if you catch the ball and stay inside the boundary rope.

Actually if you step on the rope it's a four. It's a six only when you step over the rope or catch the ball behind the boundry rope.

It is still a 6 even if he catches the ball & steps over the boundary rope without touching it.

I've played cricket for 14yrs now and its is counted as 6 runs but sorry Stephen that is wrong if you lean over the rope and take the catch it is still counted as a 6 as the ball has crossed the rope. that has happened in a test match in the 80's the fielder caught the ball just over the rope but they 3rd umpire gave it as a 6 because the ball had crossed the rope . only catching within the rope is allowed.

As soon as you hit the ground outside of the rope (or the rope itself) while holding the ball, it is a six.

Some astute players, jump up to catch it, but know they will land outside the boundary, so throw the ball back into play before they land. The batsman is not out, but he also does not get the six.

It is a six as you have crossed the boundry it does not matter about touching it, however if you leaned over the rope and caught the ball without touching the rope then it is a catch.
