Do you think people are honest?

Question

I work in a job where people think it can save them money if they lie to me. It usually doesn't work and only serves to make me question the integrity of everybody. What do you think are people trust worthy?

a lie i has no importance to anyone anymore. people tell others what they think will make them look better. not what is the truth, but they, or should i say we, fail to realize is that people will respect you more is you tell the truth. u become trustworthy. people will confide in you. everyone lies. ssome lie more than others and some lie to protect others, but when it all falls down everyone lies.

Some people are, and some people are not. Many people will lie if they think that no one is going to catch them at it (like saying their child is under 10 when he's starting to grow a mustache.)

That being said, my experience has been that more people can be trusted than not trusted. There are differences by region (small town where everyone knows everybody generally tend to have more honest people; anonymous big cities tend to have fewer); by occupation; and by cultural backgroun (in some countries, you learn to lie so you don't get shot - hard habit to break when the threat of death is no longer imminent.)

More and more, I too lose faith in the integrity of society. We are constantly given examples that forthright honesty and truth are not "en vogue." President Clinton and the "I did not have sexual relations with that woman," professional athletes assaulting and raping women, then claiming they were nowhere around, major business people caught up in insider trading (Martha Stewart) and embezzlement (Enron). It's no wonder that people are lying, they see the success it brings on the news nearly every night. All those I have mentioned were at best slapped on the wrist, and continue to make millions, if not billions of dollars per year. I have taught my children and young people with whom I work that there are only two things no one can ever take from you; only you can give them up: your faith and your integrity. Lose them, and they are extremely difficult to regain. I find myself now very cynical; and generally I trust no one until that trust is earned. But generally, no, I find people are not honest.

It takes time to know whether people are honest. I usually feel that the average person is not honest. So there's not much we can do but deal with people's dishonesty. If you wish to, you can use some exaggerated humor at work by letting people know that they could save even more money if they're a little more dishonest.

I work in the Rent-A-Car business and I have learned that very few people are honest. A good majority of my customers will lie and complain to get a discount.

There's a lot of everything in this world. You can't generalize as not everyone is the same. It's hard to trust someone, it can take as much as a lifetime to do so. I particularly feel comfortable giving people the benefit of the doubt. To me people are honest until they prove otherwise.

Always question the integrity of anyone you have to personally deal with. You don't need to do this in the open however, you need to consider it in your mind because your integrity may well be judged by your decision to continue to do business with them. And yes, people are as trustworthy as we allow them to be.

Sorry to say that it's all a big guess. I wish I could tell just by looking who is trustworthy and who is not. It's all part of the grab bag of life. Some people are very trustworthy and some people you can not turn your back to. Good luck!!

Some people like to lie but others like me are honest and I like honesty in people but it's hard to tell with some people.
