Typically a person like this will always be like this. Just like the person with anger issues will always have anger issues no matter how much counselling or anger management therapy they go to. In my life I have only seen a small handful of people truly change. So it's possible, but not very likely. So I guess I'm saying there is hope to change. But it's not going to happen out of some positive thinking course or counselling. I don't have a lot of confidence in those methods. You have to find the strength either from within or from without. From within is a lost cause since it's natural for you to be this way. From without is where the answer is, but exactly where is the question. Since people are generally unreliable I would say your best and perhaps only chance to overcome a trait that binds you like this would be to allow God's power to change your life. Short of that, every other method will likely fail and make you more bitter each time.

I'm exactly the same way. You're afraid of hurting their feelings, want to make everybody happy. It takes practice saying no. It also takes the realization that you're someone who deserves respect, and that folks aren't allowed to take advantage of you. So the next time someone asks you to do someone or for something, ask yourself if it's in YOUR best interest to do in the long run, if it's worth saying yes to, and if it's not, "just say no", as the cliche saying goes. Best of luck, I know you can do it :) And trust me, it does get easier, and you'll feel happier about yourself too!

Look in the mirror in the morning and practice. There are many ways to say no "Thank you but i am not comfortable with that so i'll have to decline", " I appreciate you asking me but i'm going to have to say no", "thank you but i'm not interested", "I would really love to but i have a prior engagement" , "I would really love to but I promised my mom, friend, brother, sister that I would spend the day with her/him".

Don''t answer so fast. Whenever in doubt, tell that person that you need some time to think about it.
It's great to be sensitive to others needs but how can you please everybody else but yourself?
Practice saying no. Your time is precious,

Always remind yourself that you come first.
Prepare a line like this: "I am sorry, but I have other obligations, and won't be able to assist you with that" and stick to it.

Good luck.
