Human trafficking to me means slavery. Slavery has existed for the whole course of human history. It has usually been a case of the strong over the weak. After some point, it became about profit, as it is to this day. Since I grew up in the USA, the human trafficking I learned about was the African slave trade, which built the American economy for the 1st hundred years. After that, child labor took it's place in the Hall of Shame. Prostitution is another form of slavery which has been around forever, and is now being aggrandized by SOME rap songs (not all, by far). Calling women "ho's" and men calling themselves "pimps" has made that form of slavery appear glamorous to some. But it is still slavery, and still as wrong as any other form of slavery. Greed is, of course the main motivation for all these things.

There is a lot of it in Thailand, I have some friends who lives there, they say the economy is either very well off or very poor. These poorer families sell their children to the traffickers, it is done like its a normal way of life. I also know it is rampant in Cambodia. There was a special on cable TV yesterday, sorry I can't remember the channel. There were kids as young as 10 years old. I also heard that the tsunami in Indonesia was a cause of a lot of orphans. There has been a huge increase in other asian countries going there and abducting these kids for human trafficing.
My opinion? Humans are the only animal that murder and rape. This type of activity makes me ashamed of being of the same species as these traffickers are.

You could write a book on the causes--and people have. In a nutshell--greed. And---in societies that view women as property or chattel (and there are residues of that even in countries like the United States) some people will take advantage of this to turn them into commodities. BTW--statistics show you don't see this in liberal social settings--only conservative ones.
And that's a general rule--historically and sociologically it s been thoroughly confirmed. Conservatives indulge in the practice of slavery. Liberal minded people and societies don't. That's not a political arguement--just a statement of empirical fact.
As to what I think? Human trafficking should have only one penalty: the severest a society imposes--either life without parole or death. Mandatory and with no "reduced sentances." As far as I'm concerned it is a crime worse than muder. That only destroys the body. Slavery destroys the mind and soul.

Lust, greed, and stupidity. Just like most heinous crimes. They do it because: It panders to the worst proclivities of **** SAPiens, and it is very profitable, and law enforcement is weak in this area. May the Devil p*ss on the people who do this!
