A half nelson is a hold in wresting. There are various styles of wrestling. The main ones in armature wrestling are freestyle, greco roman and sambo. It is classed as a Martial art. Staged wrestling is mainly known as professional wrestling. Most pro wresting these days comes from USA but there used to be many local bouts staged in UK.

Wresting. Basically you twist your opponent's arm behind his back and force it up. A full nelson involve doing it with both arms. It's a good hold and hard to get out of; although I do recall a 60's wrestler who's star turn was to let his opponent put him in a half nelson then run around dragging the other guy behind him.
