If you were to somehow get to the edge of the universe what would happen if u traveled beyond it?

Einstein first came up with the idea of gravity curving space. That's how the Earth orbits the sun. It wants to go straight but the Sun curves the space around it so the Earth can't go flying off.

There is so much matter in the universe that space is bent back on itself! It's sort of like how you can bend a wire until its ends touch, you come up with a circle. You can walk around a circle forever without coming to an edge.

So, the universe can be finite but have no edge. It's similar to the Earth. The Earth has a finite surface area but it doesn't have an edge that you can fall off (lucky for Columbus...)

To play along with your question, the 'edge' of the universe is expanding at the speed of light away from the centre in all directions. To stay at the edge for any period of time, no matter how short would require that you were also travelling at the speed of light. Therefore, to travel beyond the edge of the universe would require you to be going faster than the dge of the universe, and therefore faster than the speed of light - never going to happen - therefore don't worry about it!!

If you travelled beyond the edge of what you believe to be the universe, then you were wrong and the edge of the universe is further away than you thought.

Many scientists believe that if you went on traveling in space, you would eventually reach back at the place where you started.

A theory I propose to justify this is that there is no such thing as a straight line in reality. Every 'straight line' is an arc of a circle of such a big radius that it seems straight to us (just as the spherical earth appears straight to us while on land)

If the universe is spherical, there is no edge to it.
Further, I do not agree with previous answers that stated that the universe is expanding. If I am wrong and they're right, would we not reach an edge if we travel at a velocity that is greater than the rate of expansion of the universe?

What the heck? Everyone is allowed to think as one wants...

The Universe is permanently expanding and is in a continuous evolution. It is not limited in space and time. You simply can't get to "the edge of the Universe" because practically it doesn't exist.
The expansion of the Universe started from the expansion of a extremely hot materia. This quick movement of the materia was thought to be a explosion, phenomena called by scientists "Big Bang". Normally, you would think that the materia will slow down, but actually is expanding faster and faster. So, you can never get to the so called "edge of the Universe", because it doesn't exist. Hope i've helped you.

The Universe is continually expanding so in theory there is no edge, just a continuum of exploding, ever changing atoms, light and time development.

Th universe has no edge, and there is nothing beyond it. "Universe" is an all inclusive term, therefore technically anything "beyond" it would also be part of the universe.

assuming you could outrun the expanding universe(which you couldnt), and further assuming you could resist the gravity of a whole universe pulling you back(which you really couldnt), youd see the absence of light, in otherwords, black. not very impressive i know, but its the truth, its just black nothingness out there.

The universe is "nothing" with something in it
