Whats the reason behind genetic characterstics?

as i got some characterstics from my parents as usually all have,but how the siemens or ovam stores these information?whats the source or chemical for it?

In the nucleus of sperm and egg cells are chromomes.

The chemical is DNA -- dioxiribonucleic acid.

You could poke around on a science site, such as New Scientist for any of these terms -- genetics, DNA, heredity, chromosome, genes.
