Well...it started with the feminist movement. Nowadays, girls have been raised with the girl power mindset. It's very cultural. Even many churches have stopped teaching the man is the head of the household, though it is clear in the Bible. There is a big movement toward going back to Traditional Marriage. My husband and I live in a Christian Domestic Discipline relationship. He is the head of our household and has the means to enforce his authority.

I go to a Chrisitian university and have a family counselor as one of my professors. He talked about how in the Bible, men have forgotten the whole other part of the verse that says wives submit to your husbands. He says that it reads that men should do it too. It's not jsut put in there for the heck of it; it's because this is what makes relationships work. Marriag eis not about domination. Marriage is about mutual respect and mutual vulnerability. Without vulnerablity, if one of both partners are rigid, the relationship will either not work or will not be a a good one.
Most Christian men who are the heads of their hosueholds are also very loving and emotionally recipient to their wives. They don't see marriage as an oppurtunity to dominate someone; they view it as a partnership.

Obey? What era are you from. Marriage isn't about one obeying the other. It's a mutual commitment that both people involved are equally important to. If you're gonna ask that question. . . why do so many American men refuse to honor and obey their wives. As for respect. . . respect is earned and by the time you're married, there should be mutual respect from both parties.

I don't know why. He is the man of the house and should definitely be obeyed and respected. As well as properly serviced at all times.

It should be mutual respect and as far as "obeying", we're not dogs, the only Master I have is God. Male chauvanism, will it ever end?

Maybe because so many American men can't properly provide for their women?

because chivalry is dead and times have changed. we work, raise kids, take care of the home all in a 24 hour period. when a guy can do everything that a woman HAS to do, then that's when they can be the master of the domain.

(''.) ..because they do not agree that the man is the head of the house...
(who does the cooking?...the woman
who does the cleaning?...the woman
who takes care of the child?...the woman
therefore...technically, the woman is the head fo the house)
AND if you ay that the man brings home the money...then i'll say this...woman can bring money home too...
