If I am going to UC Davis, what major should I take up that would help me on my path to becoming a doctor - preferably a physician/pediatrician?

It doesn't matter what your major is as long as you get good grades and also take the required science/math prerequisites for med school. It is often suggested that you major in anything that interests you (even if it's outside of science) because (1) you'll need a high GPA to get admitted to med school, which you're more likely to get in a subject you enjoy, and (2) it will be the last time for many years that you will be able to learn anything outside of medicine. In fact, UC Davis' website states that studies in a area outside of science can actually be an asset.

If there is a specific pre-med program then of course that is what you want, otherwise something in the biological sciences.
BUT what you should keep in mind too is that many of the best medical programs in North America are paying increasing attention to potential physicians' people skills, including the ability to communicate effectively. You would be helping yourself by taking a minor or at least taking a number of electives in either English or a writing-intensive discipline in the humanities such as History.
Good luck.

different people who spoke back this question are correct which you will make the main of a graduate degree, yet you in all risk comprehend that. so some distance as chemistry as against biochem, the biochem substantial at UC Davis is quite lots interior the organic and organic sciences sphere. All bio sci majors (a minimum of while i became there) took lots a similar application in the process the junior year, at the same time with biochem. in case you like organic and organic, i think of a chem substantial might healthful you greater advantageous. the two are quite versatile stages - you're able to do biologically-orientated chemistry with a chemistry degree, and chemically-orientated biology with a biochem degree.

Most pre-med people double-major in bio and chem, and you'll need calculus and physics as well, but you won't need to major in them. That's probably the best preparation you can get for the MCATs.
