I'm using a jump drive from Best Buy, and I'm trying to use it on my old Windows 98 PC as well as my Windows XP PC, but my W98 doesn't even find it in "My Computer" and I think it's because I've only got USB 1 instead of 2.0 -- is there a way to verify this?

Download this free tool ... it will identify the make & model of your mainboard & then you can look the specs up on the web to see if its USB ports are 1.0, 1.1 or 2.0.

CPU-Z is a freeware that gathers information on some of the main devices of your system. :

That, however, would not prevent the drive from being detected ... it would only give you slower transfer rates.

Many newer USB drives do require manufacturer drivers to work in Win98.
I suggest you go the manufacturer website (of your USB drive) & look under "downloads & support".
I'm certain they will have a driver available for Window 98.

That is not the problem,Your problem is with formating.U can format a drive either in NTFS format or FAT32 format. NTFS format is not recognized by Win98,it can only be recognized by
Win XP. So format ur usb drive to FAT32 format, u can do that either with Win98 or Win XP. In other words WinXP recognize both NTFS and FAt32 format, but Win98 only recognize FAT32
